What is a Quick Home Energy Check-up?

The Quick Home Energy Checkup, or "QHEC", is an energy efficiency education program fully funded by EmPower Maryland through a surcharge which appears on Maryland residents' electric bills.

Appointments average about 30-40 minutes and include education on how to lower power bills and increase comfort, installation of energy efficient LED lighting to replace any incandescent or halogen lighting, (up to 14 light bulbs are included), water saving devices, power strips, and water pipe insulation.

For homeowners, the program also may assess eligibility for other energy efficiency programs such as the Home Performance program, which provides utility rebates up to $7,500.00 to make energy efficiency improvements in homes.

Who is Eligible?

Any Maryland resident who is paying an electric bill to either Potomac Edison, PEPCO, or BGE is eligible for a No Cost Quick Home Energy Check up. You do not need to own your home to be eligible.
